Biography

I am thrilled to be joining the third grade team at QAE this fall! I grew up in Western Massachusetts with my three older siblings and dedicated parents. We always had pets in our home, including bunnies, turtles, hamsters, and dogs. As a young kid I enjoyed sewing and started a 'small business' making cloth bags and dresses. I still enjoy crafting, beading, and creating things with my hands.

After earning my BA at the University of Massachusetts, I went on to earn my M. Ed in education and taught fourth grade outside of Boston for five years. My husband and I relocated to Seattle in 2008 while he earned his MBA and I taught fifth grade on Mercer Island. We fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and our 'two year stay' become 9+ years, two kids, and a dog!

When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me chasing after my little boys, running around Greenlake with our Australian Shepherd, cooking healthy meals, exploring new parts of the city, or rock climbing and bouldering at the local rock gym. I look forward to becoming a part of the QAE community!

Biography

Hello Hay! I have been a Registered Nurse for twenty years with almost the entirely of my career being based in family planning and reproductive health. A few years ago I made the switch to school nursing and am loving this new adventure in health care.
I grew up in a military family so I’ve been fortunate to have traveled the world from the beginning of my life. I think this early childhood “life on the go” has stuck with me, I’m an avid traveler and use any free time to travel the world with my partner Brian and our kids Kohen and Beckett. Aside from traveling, I love capturing images on my camera, backpacking, sailing, and I also run a non-profit arts organization with my partner.

I am grateful to teach and live in Queen Anne. Fifteen years ago, I began my journey toward becoming a teacher by working at Creative Arts for Children where I learned how routines, expectations and cooperative play can set students up for social and academic success. When my younger daughter was a student at Queen Anne Elementary, I learned the magic that comes from connecting with students… letting them know that they are seen, heard and their perspectives valued. Then, after working as a first-grade tutor for four years, I was so inspired by the teachers and students at QAE that I went back to school to get my teaching certificate with endorsements in both elementary and special education. As a teacher now, witnessing and supporting all students as they navigate their learning journey is the joy that keeps me inspired.

Inside the classroom, I strive to foster a culture of connection and mutual support. I have found that reading aloud from inspiring texts, incorporating fun and providing opportunities for students to claim ownership of their learning create conditions for cultivating students who love school. I love teaching and learning right alongside them!

Physical Therapist (PT)

zrgeiger@seattleschools.org

My name is Zoe Geiger and I am a physical therapist (PT) with Seattle Public Schools. As a school-based physical therapist, I work in the special education department across multiple schools, helping students access their school environment and participate in their academic program. I grew up in Seattle and am a proud SPS alum. I received my Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from Western Washington University in 2015, where I also studied psychology and dance. After a couple years of working, traveling, and volunteering, I moved to Tacoma to continue my formal education and received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Puget Sound. Outside of work, I enjoy dancing, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends.

Personal Message

After a journey that has taken me across the country, I am so excited that I have landed in my new home at Queen Anne Elementary! I am thrilled to be joining such a dynamic community of learners, teachers, and families.

I come by way of the Northeast, the Midwest, and the Northeast (again). Raised in the Boston area, and growing up the child of an educator, I never imagined that I, too, would find my passion in teaching. But after trying on various careers, I finally pursued my M.Ed at the University of Illinois at Chicago and came into my true vocation. I had meaningful experiences teaching 3rd and 4th grade in Chicago Public Schools before moving back “home” to work as a 4th grade teacher in a wonderfully nurturing Boston-area public school. As an educator, I am driven to foster learning environments that inspire risk-taking and critical thinking as well as encourage students to envision and create a more socially just world. My background also includes a love for the theater arts and I am continuously looking for ways to incorporate dramatic play into everyday teaching and learning.

My partner Kristina and I have been drawn to Seattle for its proximity to natural beauty as well as good friends. Outside of education, my joys in life include playing with my little nieces and nephews, singing karaoke with friends, traveling, basking in nature, and getting sucked into a fantastic book.

I've been a joyful member of the Queen Anne Elementary team since 2021. Engaging with children in creative work and play is a passion and a calling. I’ve worked with Seattle Public Schools since 2012 – as an instructional assistant at B.F. Day Elementary, as a UW student teacher at Wing Luke Elementary, and as a special education teacher at Robert Eagle Staff Middle School.

I grew up in Pennsylvania, but Seattle feels like home. I live in the Fremont neighborhood with my husband, our delightfully quirky teens, and our two silly cats. I love writing, hiking, gardening, yoga, and visiting the harbor seals at the Ballard Locks.
